A text for reading teaching in Senior High School

PINOCCHIO
In the past, there was a puppeteer whose name is Geppetto. He eager to have a son very much but his wife passed away several years ago. One day, he got an idea to make a puppet in order not to be lonely again. He made a puppet all day long. Finally, in the morning he had finished his work and he named the puppet Pinocchio. Soon he felt lonely again since Pinocchio couldn't walk or talk by itself. One night, Geppetto prayed to the God to become a real boy. He always thought it on his mind in his dream.
In the next morning, he was surprised that Pinocchio was alive. He taught Pinocchio how to walk, how to read, how to speak and to do other things as human. He then studied at an elementary school. One day, Pinocchio felt bored and it made him go home late. When Pinocchio finally came home, Geppetto asked him. He said that he was on school but he wasn’t. Instantly, Pinocchio's nose grew longer and longer and it meant that Pinocchio has lied.
The next morning, Pinocchio was kidnaped by the owner of circus. Pinocchio soon became a slave for the circus. He was so famous because he was a puppet which can talk. Geppetto worried about him because Pinocchio had not been going home for almost two days. He tried to find Pinocchio everywhere but he found nothing. When he searched him on the sea, big wave smashed him. He was then in whale's stomach when he awoke. He couldn't find the way to go out.
In the other side, Pinocchio finally could escape out from the circus. He came home but nobody was there. Latter on, he searched Geppetto in the sea. He got the same accident like Geppetto and he met Geppetto in whale's stomach. Both of them got out from its stomach by making a fire. In the end of the story, they went home together and lived happily ever after.

The purpose of reading is:
·         To get information.
·         To gain understanding.
·         To get information about something specific and problematic.
·         To provide a critical assessment of someone's written work.
2.      Design botton up and top down activity for pre reading activity !

What first came to your mind when you heard the story of Pinocchio? And

3.      Teach the strategy to comprehend the text based on the objective of the learning-teaching!
The strategy of reading
a.       Previewing the text to get an overview
Previewing a text means that you get an idea of what it is about without actually reading the main body of the text.When to use it: to help you decide whether a book or journal is useful for your purpose; to get a general sense of the article structure, to help you locate relevant information; to help you to identify the sections of the text you may need to read and the sections you can omit.
b.      Skimming
Skimming involves running your eye very quickly over large chunks of text. It is different from previewing because skimming involves the paragraph text. Skimming allows you to pick up some of the main ideas without paying attention to detail. It is a fast process. A single chapter should take only a few minutes.When to use it: to quickly locate relevant sections from a large quantity of written material. Especially useful when there are few headings or graphic elements to gain an overview of a text. Skimming adds further information to an overview.

c.       Scanning
Scanning is sweeping your eyes (like radar) over part of a text to find specific pieces of information.When to use it: to quickly locate specific information from a large quantity of written material.

d.      Intensive reading
What is it? Intensive reading is detailed, focused, ‘study’ reading of those important parts, pages or chapters. When to use it: When you have previewed an article and used the techniques of skimming and scanning to find what you need to concentrate on, then you can slow down and do some intensive reading.
4.      Provide on the activity to test your students comprehension!

·         What is the main idea of the text?
·         What is the moral value do you get after reading the text?
